Visa & Student Pass
1. Student Pass Application
Every International Student is required to have a valid identification document and student pass for purpose of study in Malaysia.
With effect from January 2014, all foreigners who want to enter Malaysia to study are required to obtain the Visa with Reference (locally known as VDR) or means a visa issued by the Malaysian Representatives Office abroad to a non-citizen to enable individuals to enter Malaysia after the Visa is approved by the Immigration Department of Malaysia.
Please submit the following documents for Student Pass Unit, Centre For International Affairs (CIA) to process and send to the Immigration Department of Malaysia for approval :
1) Two (2) copies of passport (ALL pages) with Certified True Copy*. Passport validity must be more than 12 month from the expected date of entry.
2) Photocopy of UniMAP Offer Letter*
3) Medical Check Up (Use UniMAP Form E)
4) Five (5) recent photographs (passport sized / 5cm x 3.5cm) with BLUE BACKGROUND
5) Completed UniMAP's Student Pass Application Form (Calling Visa)
*The term "Certified True Copy" refers to the duplicates of original documents, certified as exact reproductions, usually by the officer responsible for issuing or keeping the original, or by a solicitor, notary public, justice of the peace or any other person authorized to take a statutory declaration. A certified true copy should carry a certificate, stamp or seal and the certifies signature.
Only application with complete documents shall be processed. Completed applications form and all documents are to be sent to : CENTRE FOR INTERNATIONAL AFFAIRS, UNIVERSITI MALAYSIA PERLIS (UniMAP), 1st Floor, Kompleks Pentadbiran UniMAP, Taman Kechor, Jalan Abi Tok Hashim, 01000 Kangar Perlis, Malaysia.
We will email to you the VDR upon approval, after which you can proceed to the nearest Malaysia Embassy / Consulate Office to stamp the visa in your passport.
The VDR approval takes about 30 days (working days) to be approval except for those from Bangladesh, India, Pakistan and Sri Langka will take about 2 until 3 months.
DO NOT Purchase your flight ticket until you have obtain the VDR approval.
The Immigration Law of Malaysia DO NOT ALLOW foreigners entering Malaysia on a special pass to apply for student pass.
2. Traveling to Malaysia
To travel to Malaysia and to facilitate entry into Malaysia, you are requested to bring with you the following :
A valid International Passport.
Original copy of the offer letter.
Approval letter from the Malaysia Immigration Department
3. Entering Malaysia
Please take note that most international flights arrive in Kuala Lumpur and you will need to do the immigration clearance in Kuala Lumpur before departing for your domestic flights.
Certain airlines do operate flights direct to Penang and the immigration clearance will be at Penang airport.
If you are traveling by road from Singapore, te immigration clearance will be at Johor Bahru Immigration Check-Point and if you are traveling by road from Thailand to the main campus, the immigration clearance is at Bukit Kayu Hitam Immigration Check-Point or at Padang Besar Immigration Check-Point.
Irrespective of your port of entry in Malaysia, you will have to go through the immigration and passport control. Please present your passport together with Immigration Approval Letter to the Immigration Officer, who will provide you the entry pass.
4. Upon arrival at UniMAP
Within 7 days after arrival and registration, you need to go to CENTRE FOR INTERNATIONAL AFFAIRS, UNIVERSITI MALAYSIA PERLIS (UniMAP) to submit required document to release your student pass from Immigration Department of Malaysia. Document to be submitted :-
Two (2) copies of passport (ALL pages)
One (1) Copies of UniMAP Offer Letter
One (1) recent photographs (passport sized / 5cm x 3.5cm) with BLUE BACKGROUND
